Funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY) and managed by the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), the program is designed to cultivate a network of skilled, confident, and influential young women scientists. The goal is to equip them with the skills necessary to thrive in agricultural sciences, take on leadership roles, and advocate for gender integration in the agricultural sector.

Since its launch in 2020, the AWARD Leadership Program has attracted participants from a wide range of agricultural disciplines, including biophysical and social sciences. It brings together women from various sectors such as government agencies, NGOs, academia, research institutions, and the private sector. To date, the program has supported 75 emerging women scientists from 21 African countries.
Eligibility
To qualify for this Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:- Be 35 years or younger at the time of application
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in any agricultural science discipline from a recognized institution
- Have a minimum of five years of professional experience in the agricultural sector
- Be a citizen of one of the following countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, or Malawi
- Currently reside in Africa and am actively involved in agriculture-related work
- Not be a Fellow or Laureate of any other AWARD Fellowships
