The return of the 54 UEFA Nations League Games in September proved to be an advantage for European nations. Though the top quartet in world football remained unmoved (Belgium, France, Brazil, and England), Portugal moved two places up to 5th place in the world rankings due to victories over Croatia and Sweden. Spain also gained from the Nations League as they moved one place up to 7th in the rankings, Italy moved one place up to 12th, while the Netherlands and Germany also moved one places up to 13th and 14th respectively in the rankings.
