A Step By Step Guide to Building Your Landing Page

Have you ever landed on a web page and the offer and copy on that web page pushed you to make a purchase? That’s the power of a landing page.

One of the brilliant things you can do for your company is to build a specific landing page to promote your lead magnets, tripwires and core offers.

What a landing page really allows you to do is zero-in on the offer you are trying to promote, so while a website may confine you to a group of products and a specific format, landing page gives you the freedom to express your copy, design and offers in a very persuasive manner.

The leaders in the industry include clickfunnels.com, leadpages.com, infusionsoft.com and instapage.com.

I’m using Instapage for this quick step by step guide because it’s easy to understand its functionality and easy to setup. They have a free trial for thirty days, but their membership plans start at $39/month.

A lot of people out there have spent ridiculous amounts to create websites, when they really don’t need one. Sometimes all you need is a landing page to test your offer and see the market reaction; it’s the quickest way to start getting clients especially for a startup.

Rather than spend months on web development and wasting a lot of money, today I am going to show you how to create a landing page easily and quickly, without paying a single dime.

Let’s go!

Now we are going to create a free landing page for a travel agent, who is trying to gather leads for her new travel guide agency.

  1. To get started, go to instapage.com and sign-up.
  2. Create a new page and pick a new template. There are numerous templates and various categories to choose from. Since we are trying to generate leads, let’s click on lead generation.
  3. Select preview to view the template, and then start editing.
  4. Name your page (only visible to you).
  5. Now you can start editing, change button colours, change the content, copy, pictures, design etc.
  6. Variations help you test out two offers at the same time; you can perform proper A/B testing. To make a new variation, go to the top left corner and select ‘Variation’, then select ‘Duplicate’, skip the mobile review and click done.
  7. To switch through variations, just go to the variations at the top left corner and switch from there.
  8. To change fonts of your copy, click on settings, then select ‘Fonts’ to choose the appropriate font, then click on ‘Done’.
  9. You can add so many different functions into your landing page including videos, forms, a new section, map, button, timer, etc.
  10. To add a new element, click on ‘Add New’ and select the element you choose to add to your landing page. Let’s Add a New form, by clicking on ‘Form’.
  1. We want to add some more functions to our form to suit our needs.
  2. We are going to add a phone number section and a favourite vacation city section. Click on your form and select edit.
Select Add Field. Select text, type in your phone number and save. Repeat process, only this time, type in favourite vacation city and save.
  1. Next, we are going to change the ‘Button Text’ to ‘Submit’.
Double Click on ‘Button Text’ and select ‘Button Style’. Change the ‘Button Text’ to ‘Submit’, and also change the button colour to orange, type in #f4ae14 for the colour code. For variation B, you can try a different button colour and different button text. To move the form just hold and drag, also to move the individual elements within the form, just hold and drag on each section. The whole goal of this landing page is for our subscribers to submit their details to us, so we can keep in touch with them. That’s why we offer them something in return like a PDF book, a price list download or a free one on one consultation.
  1. Once they submit, we need to make sure they are redirected to a proper page, like a website or a thank you page.
To do this, double-click on your form, and select ‘Redirect’. Also, edit the thank you message.
