Nigeria’s prestigious music awards, The Headies, which held Thursday 26th December 2013, saw Yoruba hip-hop rap artiste, Olamide, emerge as the biggest winner of the night.
Olamide took home four awards: Best Rap Album, Street Pop Song of the Year, Album of the Year and a joint award for Phyno’s Ghost mode which won Best Collabo Of The Year award.
Sean Tizzle, a debutante on the big scene in 2013, beat Phyno, Burna Boy, Dammy Kranne and Seyi Shay for the highly contested next rated category which also comes with a Hyundai automobile prize.
There were a few surprises at the event, which was hosted by Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid. Waje won Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year ahead of Orezi and General Pype, while Mode 9 emerged winner despite Vector and budding rapper, Boogie’s seemingly close grip in this genre.
Missing at the 2013 Headies held at the Oriental hotel were Tuface, D’banj, Psquare, and Wizkid amongst others.
