Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has won the long jump event at the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) Diamond League in Monaco.
Okagbare, who’s one of Nigeria’s medal hopefuls at the Moscow 2013 IAAF World Championship, cleared 7.04m to record her personal best of the season. She left Russia’s Darya Klishina and Britain’s Proctor Shara in her wake, both finishing second and third respectively.
With the win, Okagbare remains top of the Diamond rankings and has now increased her points to ten. Earlier this month, she won the Women’s Long Jump event at the IAAF Diamond League Grand Prix in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
Prior to the Lausanne event, Okagbare came out tops against fierce rivals Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Carmelita Jeter to win the 200 meters at the Birmingham Grand Prix.
The 24-year old Nigerian has been in scintillating form this year, putting up impressive shows in all the eight diamond league meets.
