Nigerian, Yewande Akinola wins Young Woman Engineer of the Year from IET UK

A Nigerian-born UK based woman, Yewande Akinola, has been named winner, for the Young Woman Engineer of the Year from the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) in London. She won, as one of the best female engineers under 30 in the UK, and had a cash prize of £2,500. She will be the new IET young woman engineer ambassador for 2013. Receiving the award she said, “Winning this has encouraged me to work even harder to put all the effort I can into spreading the message about how successful women in engineering are and can be. I’m hoping this will help me tell an effective story that will inspire young girls to consider a career in engineering and will demonstrate the diverse and fantastic opportunities this industry has to offer.” She works with ARUP – a global firm of consulting engineers – in the UK. She has a BSc in in Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology from the University of Warwick, and a Masters in Innovation and Design from Cranfield University – both in UK.
