Nearly everyone hates the sound of their alarm on a Monday morning. You had a weekend away from work or school, and now it’s time to go back again. Let’s face it, most of us would rather be buried under our duvets, continuing the enjoyment of the weekend. Most people feel this way not because they are lazy, but because the human body finds breaks very relaxing and one can be tempted to keep staying in relaxing mode. Whether you have a job or you’re a student, waking up on Monday doesn’t have to fill you with dread as long as you practice these points below. Have a Purpose Why do you go to work? Why are you getting that degree? What makes you wake up every day to go somewhere? Your reasons for having a job or a degree should be enough motivation to wake you up on a Monday morning and keep you going for the rest of the week. Your job pays the bills, and without it, life can’t be easy. Even for people who do not like their jobs and would rather sleep in on a Monday morning, earning money to pay the bills is a valid reason to wake up every day and go to work. Change Your Mindset Seriously, would you rather be unemployed and sleeping through your days without a care in the world? How would you pay your bills or meet other financial needs? If you know you need the money, then you need to train your mind to accept the fact that the job is important to you. Once you keep telling yourself this, it gets easier to wake up without dread. Always be Prepared “Thank God it’s Friday!” And all of a sudden you don’t care about that file from work or that assignment that needs submission. Cue Monday morning and you are filled with panic. I know the weekend is for relaxation and having your personal time, but it is also the time to prepare for the following week. Ensure that your work clothes are laundered, and you have prepared everything you need for the week. That will bring you less panic in the morning. Be Grateful for What You Have With the high unemployment rate in Nigeria, you know millions of people wish to be in your shoes. There are lots and lots of people looking for a job to go to, to feed them and keep a roof over their heads. Be thankful for what you have and you will find yourself happier. Think About Your Health Having a sedentary lifestyle increases one’s chances of cancer, obesity, diabetes and some other life threatening diseases. The human body needs to stay active to exercise the organs, burn calories and stay healthy. If not for anything, you need to wake up and get something to do, just to exercise your body. Starting your week on a happy note is possible, regardless of whether you love your job or not. All you have to do is always look at the bright side and stay positive.
