Richard Mofe Damijo, fondly called RMD, is a Nigerian actor. The veteran actor was once a Commission for Culture and Tourism in Delta State in 1999. He won the Africa Movie Academy Award for the ‘Best Actor in a Lead Role’ in 2005.

Early life

RMD was born on July 6, 1961 in Aladja, Delta State, Nigeria to a family of 18. He attended Midwest College and Anglican Grammar School. It was while he was in secondary school that he joined the school’s drama club and began acting, playing female roles. After secondary education, he was admitted to study Theatre Arts in the University of Benin. He went back to study Law at the University of Lagos in 1997, graduating with an LLM (Master of Law and Letters) in 2004. The first movie he acted was “Ripples”, a television soap opera in the late 80’s. He worked briefly with Concord Newspaper and Metro Magazine as a reporter before quitting the media to join the movie industry. The first movie he wrote and produced was Out of Bounds. Thereafter, he won the AMAA in 2005 during its maiden edition. He also won the ‘Lifetime Achievement award’ at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Award.

RMD has acted over 200 movies, starring with other movie stars such as Liz Benson, Pete Edochie, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, Stella Damascus-Aboderin, Segun Arinze, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Desmond Elliot, Genevieve Nnaji, Joke Silva, Olu Jacobs, Tony Umez, Patience Ozokwor, Bimbo Akintola, and Rita Dominic. Some of the movies he has acted are Hostages, Scores to Settle, Private Sin, Soul Provider, Romantic Attraction, Emotional Pain, Ayomide, The Intruder, Passions, Freedom, When God says Yes, Ripples, Angels of Destiny, The Richest Man, Diamond Ring, The Return, The Legend, and recently, 30 Days in Atlanta, Oloibiri, Okafor’s Law, Hush, Three Wise Men, The Grudge, and 10 Days in Sun city. He also starred in the ‘box-breaking’ movie, The Wedding Party and it’s sequel. RMB also sings. He featured in Baby Jowo by the Film and TV All Stars alongside Kate Henshaw, Saheed Balogun, Lanre Balogun, among others. In 2018, he was featured in Falz’s Baby Boy video. It is worthy to note RMD for his versatility and consistency. RMD exhumes such acting prowess that lets him play any role ranging from romance to violence, cruelty, and humaneness all perfectly. Richard Mofe-Damijo married May Ellen-Ezekiel and they had a son together bfore her death in 1996. In year 2000, he remarried Jumobi Adegbesan, a TV personality who has now left TV for the corporate world. They have four children together. RMD is currently one of the richest and influential actors in Nigeria.
