Over 50 celebrities, pastors, imams, CEOs, corporate executives, young entrepreneurs and politicians will gather at the 2012 edition of I.N.V.E.N.T to mentor and inspire children to become worthy leaders of tomorrow.
A great concept in human development is to “catch them young”. If we can instil the right values in our children, then we would have a generation who would grow up not departing from that path; and, at most, with the right foundation. One of the ways we can achieve this is through mentoring.
The 2012 edition of I.N.V.E.N.T — an acronym for Inspiring Nigeria’s Vanguard of Exceptionally Noble Talents — will hold on Wednesday May 30, 2012. Over 1,500 participants, including teachers and students, from 150 registered public and private schools across Lagos State will feature at the event.
Mr. Lasisi Olatunbosun, the PR and Media Executive for Elderberry Integrated Resources Limited, the company hosting the event says: ‘Our logical consideration arises from the need that every society deserves the leadership they get, and if as a society we desire for better leadership structure, it is proper to start grooming them now to build a culture of leadership that possesses the earnest purpose to serve dutifully,’
The participants will be introduced to about fifty professional, well-meaning Nigerians in their areas of interest. Specialists in fields like sports, media, education, entertainment, and banking.
It doesn’t end at the summit. Since mentoring is a long term project, the facilitators have created an online portal where protégés can receive on-going counselling at different stages of their lives. The mentors can also record progress reports, receive and give feedback and counsel, and inspire and encourage those assigned to them.
The primary objective is to ensure that participants build a set of sound, authentic and consistent values through the platform.
‘We are convinced this online interactivity will guarantee the expected flow of interpersonal engagements between the mentors and protégés in a manner that fuels positive social transition and empowers them (the protégés) to contribute positively to the country in whatsoever region they find themselves.’
The Children’s Day Leadership Summit will hold on May 30th, 2012.
Venue is at the Aquatic Hall, Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos.
