This is what Connect Nigeria aims to prove with its upcoming Writers’ Conference. The conference, which holds on September 21 has been tagged The business of writing: Translating Writing Into Money. As the name suggests, it is for all sorts of writers passionate about their fields and seeking to create income by using their God-given talents for writing.
The History of Connect Nigeria’s Writers Conference
The first edition of Connect Nigeria’s writers conference took place on April 2014. It was a massive success which superseded expectations and gathered over 120 writers who came to learn about the strategies involved in monetising their writing craft.
Besides this, they had the opportunity to learn from great minds who have been in the business of writing for years. From scriptwriting to online-editing and fashion and style writing to book publishing, these authorities in the writing industry addressed various kinds of writing as well as the nagging questions that typically plague writers.
As soon as the conference was over, reviews came pouring in from thrilled participants who had nothing but good things to say and raved over how it had impacted them. This success was only the beginning as 2015 came and Connect Nigeria saw an even bigger conference which held just after the 2015 elections. With brilliant speakers paneling the event once again and more positive reviews from participants, this edition was just as unforgettable as the first.
Three more years passed with one successful writers’ conference after the other and now, Connect Nigeria has come back with a new edition in 2019 which promises to be unprecedented.
What We Can Expect From The 2019 Writers Conference
The 2019 edition of Connect Nigeria’s writers’ conference has the theme The Business of Writing: Translating Writing into Money. With panels, workshops, and keynote speeches, the conference will convene at least 200 individuals seeking to learn how to hone their writing talent and finesse it to marketable standard.
As usual, this year’s event will be graced by authority figures in the literary world who will speak about the art of generating income through writing. So far, the guests who have been enlisted to speak at the event include Dare Olaitan, a screenwriter and managing director of Singularity Media Limited; Chioma Ngaikedi, multiple award-winning writer and Chief Executive Officer of Ixora Productions Limited; Efe Paul Azino, the co-founder of West Africa’s first international poetry festival; and Tomilola Coco Adeyemo, a screenwriter who has worked on projects like Africa Magic Hush and MTV Shuga.
It is interesting to note that Okadabooks is the official partner of this year’s writers conference. Okadabooks has been in the business of supporting budding Nigerian authors for years by publishing their works for free.
