Universal access to the internet will prove to be the new social equator in this era of the internet-of-things. Indeed, the undercurrent for the new disruptive lifestyle patterns is undisputedly data. The avalanche of data in the economy has facilitated the adoption of novel economic realities. Recent reports from the International Telecommunication Union logs internet penetration in Nigeria at above 42% with more than 82 million people out of a population of 186 million actively using the internet in July 2016.
This year’s data usage statistics is instructive in its revelations and the glimpse of opportunities it has generated in the market. This is coupled with the growing popularity of the over-the-top services (OTT) and its concomitant effect of ebbing away at networks service providers’ profits.
In the coming years, we anticipate far-reaching economic consequences for players in the telecommunications industry and we also see a lot in the potential for the fintech movement across Nigeria. A smart telecoms network will hence be on the look out to positioning for relevance in the emerging data-driven economy, while smart consumers will consistently look out for how to leverage data to improve their way of life.
In light of the above trend, data fiesta will run on the sidelines of the Digital PayExpo 2017 as a segment of the show.
Join the party because the fun never stops as we host the first ever virtual party in Nigeria scheduled to take place from the 13th to 15th of June 2017. For updates, follow us on social media www.facebook.com/IntermarcConsulting.
