The record of publication was lost forever. If you want to keep a web page handy for a long time; here are a few apps, methods and tools that will let you store them offline for later accessibility offline.

Desktop

For those using a desktop computer, saving a web page is as simple as the following couple of steps. Just open up your browser, navigate to the page, and go to ‘File’ then ‘Save Page As’. Select the ‘Web Page, Complete’ option and the web page will be stored automatically in your Documents. You will get an HTML file and a folder full of images and other data contained in it. Whenever you intend to access the web page, the web page will reconstruct itself even if you do not have an internet connection; once you double-click on the HTML file.

iOS

Offline Pages Pro is a free iOS app for saving web pages as many as possible. Just open up the app, type in the address of the page you want to save, and click on the ‘Save’ button in the address bar. You will then be able to open it up when you don’t have a connection.

Android

You need an Offline Browser to keep a web page for later on Android. Just open Offline Browser and tap the plus sign to add a new page to your library.

Other services/apps like Pocket, Instapaper, or Readability can be used to save articles for later offline viewing.

Snipping Tool

Snipping tools will take a snapshot of whatever web page you intend to save and then preserve it as an easily accessible PNG or JPEG image copy. Snipping tools are very fast to use and can be used to take a quick screenshot. For Windows, a combined press of the Window and the ‘PrntScrn’ function key can quickly store a web page which you can later access in the ‘Screenshot’ folder in Documents.

Archiving

There are a few internet-based services that provide website storage services for users who wish to capture what a web page looks like at particular points in its history. www.archive.is, for instance, is a web-based service dedicated to snapping specific web pages as it looks over time, just by entering the URL. Bottomline: Snipping tools and saving complete web pages still appears to be better than the other options as it does not depend on internet-connected services. Using apps and web archiving largely depends on if such a service can also survive many decades without shutting down its service. Featured Image Source: Hongkiat
