An entrepreneur most times, does more work than an average employee. You are accountable first to yourself and would have to maintain discipline to get work done. In actual reality, there are a thousand and one distractions to derail you from your usual work course and impede productivity, but with these tips, you can now have a more productive work day.
Study yourself
Find out your most productive times of the day and your activity breaker. An activity breaker is the activity that easily gets you into the work mode. It could begin from the easiest task or the most enjoyable one. Your most productive time of the day is when you are at your optimum and get the most work done. If you do not know this yet, you might have to take a few days off to figure it out by tracking your productive hours and time of the day. Use the information to better schedule your time. You can use your least productive time to engage in activities that bring the least returns, like watching a movie or reading a book.
Prioritize your tasks
You have to know which of your tasks brings the most returns and which brings the least returns. This helps you know where your most productive hours should be expended. Some times, it is not the hardest tasks that bring the most returns, so you might have to take that into consideration. Another way to prioritize is to be mindful of the deadlines each task has. You should prepare to turn in tasks at least a day before they are due.
Declutter
Most times, your productivity is hampered when there are too many tasks at hand and it gets overwhelming. There are simple exercises to help you declutter. It could be as simple as closing the taps on your PC, closing the apps you are not using, handle one task at a time, turn off your push notifications, among others.
Have clear goals
You need to identify what you want to achieve. What do you get out of an activity you engage in? That is a great motivator to see a task through. Before you set out to achieve a goal, identify the reward you get out of it and stay through that course until you get your reward.
Establish habits and routines
Habits and routines are no respecter of feelings or emotions. You do them whether you feel like it or not. An example of habit and routine is taking a bath daily. It does not matter how many days we have lived, we keep doing them. You have to see habits and routines as activities that automatically improve your life.
Productivity is not so much about output, but each progressive effort you put in works. You are not only productive when you have completed the task but when you have made sufficient and progressive efforts. If you implement these tips, you will be able to wade off distractions and get more tasks done in the best possible ways.
