There are several ways to discover and attract real estate clients online. We’ll talk about some of them here. Hopefully, you’ll adapt these tips to your unique circumstances, and use them to expand your company’s reach. Here they are:

Utilize SEO

SEO—that is, Search Engine Optimization –involves trying to rank your website and content close to (or at) the top of search engine results pages. The aim here is to make your business easily discoverable by people who are searching for the sort of thing you offer online. You can optimize for search engines by including relevant keywords across your content and website. Keywords are terms that people often type into their search engines (e.g. Google, Bing, Opera) when looking for something online. In this case, the appropriate keywords will be related to real estate. For example, if your company sells property located in Kano, you could use keywords like “real estate company in Kano”, “property for sale in Kano”, “house for rent in Kano”, etc. You should also ensure that your website loads fast. If it doesn’t, users will only spend a short while on it before leaving, and search engines will place it further down the results pages. One way to speed up your site is to use compressed images. Another would be to reduce redirects.

Use Property Listing Websites

Many potential clients will go straight to websites that list properties put up for sale or rent by various agents and companies. These sites are becoming a fixture in the real estate industry, and are a first port of call for a lot of would-be buyers or renters hunting for a good space. Listings on these sites usually include the type of property listed, its location, dimensions (especially for land), price or rental fee, pictures and/or videos of the property, and contact information of the agent who posted it. Here’s how to find real estate clients online with property listing sites:
  • Use reputable listing websites. An example is Connect Nigeria’s Real Estate portal.
  • Include every detail that a potential client would want to know about location, type of property, cost, etc.
  • Use well-taken pictures and/or videos of the property, so that potential clients can see what it looks like
  • Leave your contact details (phone number or email address) so the site’s visitors can contact you

Attract Clients with Pay per Click (PPC) Advertising

You can reach potential clients with online adverts, just like you can with advertisements on old media. The key difference is that PPC advertising (as it’s called) only charges you when someone who sees your ad clicks on it to find out more about your product or service. The advantage you’ll gain with PPC is that it appears at the top of search engine results pages, above organically placed results. This increases the chance that people will click on the result that links to your page and broadens your pool of potential clients. There are a few things you need to do here. First, you’ll have to select a keyword, and then bid for an ad placement. The value of your bid will depend on the bid that your competitors are putting in. After this, you should get your ad copy and landing page ready. Your ad copy is the text that will appear on the search engine results page. When anyone clicks on your ad in the search results, it should take them to your landing page. Ideally, the landing page will contain all the information that a potential client wants to know about your business and what it’s selling. It should also include a Call to Action (for example, a button that they can click on to contact you).

Maintain an Active Social Media Presence

If you’re wondering how to find real estate clients online, one avenue you should explore is social media. With millions of Nigerians (locally and in the diaspora) using platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, it’s a no-brainer. You want to be where your prospects hang out. You will have to do more than merely keep an account or post sporadically on social media. If you want to attract the public to your business and its services, you’ll need to share information that they’ll consider worth their time. That may mean posting tips and insights about real estate that they probably aren’t aware of. Also, engage respondents, answer questions from them, and re-share positive feedback. Besides informing and educating your audience, you could also share details concerning the selected property you’re currently selling or renting out. People who are impressed by the industry information you put out will likely also trust you as a provider of decent property.
