In This article, we’ll lay out six tips for hitting your sales target this year. Hopefully, you’ll implement them and score the wins that should follow from doing so. Here they are:

Aim at Challenging but Achievable Goals

When drawing up an annual sales plan, it’s important to strike a balance between being ambitious and being realistic. Go for a target that’s too low and you’ll fail to reach your potential; drive at one that’s too lofty, and you’ll almost certainly fall short. Instead, come up with an aim that’s reasonable given your business’s past achievement and what the markets say is possible, and move towards it by leveraging the resources at your disposal.

Communicate Your Goals to Your Team

If you work with a team of employees, you’ll need to let them know what your business’s sales plans are. They will all be contributing in their own way to ensure that targets are met; it’s crucial that they know what their roles entail and how to take on those roles properly. They could even help with ideas and insights that inform the drawing up of the sales plan.

Review Your Sales Plan Regularly

You have a single, clearly defined sales target for the year. Perhaps it’s to sell a thousand clothes via your online store or to secure 5,000 subscriptions for your SME accounting and bookkeeping service. Whatever it is, you’ll be better off setting shorter-term objectives—such as gaining 100 subscriptions per week –and working to reach them. You could then evaluate your progress towards the goal for the year on a monthly and/or quarterly basis. This will enable you to stay on track to hit the year’s mark.

Cross-Sell and Upsell to Existing Clients

Many salespeople think that their best chance at improving sales numbers lies in acquiring new clients. But this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, it’s often easier to bump up sales by getting existing clients to buy more products. You could either offer them other varieties of the same items you’ve been selling them or persuade them to purchase higher grade (read: higher priced) versions of those products. This may be easier to do than attract new customers because you already know how to convince your existing customers to buy stuff from you.

Ask for Referrals

Don’t hesitate to ask your customers for referrals—especially if they have expressed their satisfaction with your product or service. It’s well known that referrals generate better sales for small businesses than most marketing strategies. Remind your customers to mention your brand to any of their contacts who need the type of product you sell. Do this consistently, and you’ll gain more than a few new buyers.

Train Your Employees

If you have customer-facing employees, you should train them in the art of selling. Make sure they have a thorough knowledge of your offerings, including how they can benefit potential consumers. They also need to understand their customers’ persona and sentiments, learn to empathize with them, and know how to engage them. Taken together, these should improve your employees’ effectiveness at drawing in more sales for your business.

Final Words

Like almost every other entrepreneur or salesperson, you’ll want your sales for 2023 to supersede what you managed to achieve the year before. This is doable if you have a plan that’s realistic. Work closely with a competent team, promote more of your products to your clients, ask for referrals, and deliver excellent service. Do these things, and you’ll be closer to smashing your sales goals for the year. Featured Image Source: Channel Futures
