DSTV subscribers can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Federal High Court has stopped Multichoice from executing the increase in its monthly subscription as intended.

The order was issued via an interim injunction by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba after the case was brought before the court by the Consumer Protection Council.
Multichoice subscribers were jolted on Monday, July 9th by the announcement from the TV and entertainment service provider about changes in subscription across its DSTV and GOTV packages with effect from August 1, 2018.

The implication of the interim injunction as issued by the court is that the company, its agents or representatives cannot proceed with the proposed increase in subscription fees or have its current price policy reviewed upwards, or impose any fees on its subscribers in the country pending the outcome of the motion on notice.
Multichoice by this injunction has also been restrained from interfering with the CPC’s regulatory process.
The recent changes in subscription saw monthly subscription fee on the GOTV Max package decrease from ₦3,800 to ₦3,200 even as prices on GOTV Plus, GOTV Value and GOTV Lite packages remain unchanged at ₦1,900, ₦1,250 and ₦400, respectively.
Subscribers on DStv Premium, however, will see the price go up from ₦14,700 to ₦15,800; while Compact Plus subscribers pay ₦10,650 as against ₦9,900; Compact – ₦6,800 from ₦6,300; Family – ₦4,000 from N3,800; and those on Access, would pay ₦2,000 instead of the previous ₦1,900.
Although the order was issued on Monday, August 21st, The prices on the website of the South African owned company are yet to comply.
