The organizers of the popular music awards, the Headies, have announced that the 9
th edition of the hip-hop culture awards will hold Saturday, 25th October 2014 in Lagos at a yet-to-be announced venue.
The Headies, formerly known as Hip-Hop World Awards held its first edition in 2006 in Lagos. The organizers have also opened the doors for submission of music materials for nomination and “only music materials released between July 2013 and June 2014 qualify for entry”. Entry opens July 22
nd, 2014 and closes August 30
th, 2014.
Speaking on the 9
th edition, Mr. Ayo Animashaun, CEO of Smooth Promotions, in a statement made available to PREMIUM TIMES said: “There is no better way to reward these deserving artists in a way that they are not only appreciated by their country, but also celebrated on a platform aligned with international brands. The honour of receiving this prestigious award that is recognized on an international level in their country is one of the many things Smooth Promotions aims to achieve with this year’s organization of The Headies.”
The organizers are also yet to reveal this year’s hosts and special artiste performances but have promised that, just like the 2013 edition which was broadcast live on HipTV, the Headies 2014 will be broadcast live to over 10 million viewers in Africa and beyond.
Last year, the duo of Tiwa Savage and Dr. SID opened the awards ceremony as the Headies introduced a new category – The Best Alternative Song and also saw Sean Tizzle walking home with highly rated ‘Next Rated’ Award.
