African business information provider Asoko Insight has partnered with Ernst & Young (EY) to launch The Africa Ranking, an annual ranking of African businesses. The continent-wide ranking aims to reveal the best performing privately owned companies headquartered in Africa and raise the profile of businesses on the continent by exposing them to a wider audience.
The Africa Ranking, its initiators say, will determine the place of companies by using financial and corporate governance indicators. Financial size would not be considered in according ranks to companies.
Working with Asoko Insight are Ernst & Young, one of the world’s leading and corporate advisory services, and African Business, a business magazine sold widely on the continent. They will be partnering to collect, verify, and use data to score companies, and publish a final ranking which will be shared with the world.
Michael Lalor, EY’s Africa Business Centre Lead Partner, says that the collaboration should help showcase the role of Africa-based companies in driving the growth of local economies. According to him, the Africa Rankings provide a platform for communicating a more home-driven narrative of progress on the African continent.
Companies that intend to be ranked can participate by providing relevant details on the Africa Rankings’ online entry form; they will be included on the final list of top companies based on the evaluation of the information they have submitted. Profiles of ranked businesses will be published on the Africa Business magazine.
Submissions by companies will be accepted until February 17, 2017.
