Teaching soccer to youngsters can be tricy, especially when you have to start from the very beginning with them.
In today’s world, everyone wants to play football because of the glamour surrounding the game, but only a few understand the passion and the level of devotion one has to put in before they can become the next Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.
For those that do understand what it demands and are willing to put in the required work, access to the right tools and the right training materials and techniques cannot be overemphasized.
Let us take a quick look at a nippy training exercise that can help youngsters build possession while also improving their dribbling skills.
The Gate Dribbling Game With Pressure
The time required to complete this exercise is about 15 mins.
Instruction
Map out a square area and set up a number of gates within this section. You can place cones on the ground to simulate the gates.
Select two groups of players; the bandits and the strikers.
The strikers are expected to drive the ball past each bandit in front of any gate and score.
The bandits will do all they can to parry away any attempts of the strikers, while also keeping count of how many goals they stopped.
Start with one bandit, then two, all the way up to as many bandits as you think is necessary to keep the strikers on their toes.
Also remember to change the bandits every 45 seconds to spice up the game.
As the number of bandits increase, make the gates smaller and let the strikers maneuver their way through the bandits to the gates.
This exercise will help the players develop their dribbling skills on the go, and also teach them ball control and possession.
