What does cooking mean to you? Is it a hobby, a chore or a passion? Let’s take a moment to consider these options. If you cook when the mood strikes, mostly for the fun of it, then, cooking is your hobby. If you cook because there’s no one else to do it, then, it’s a chore to you. But if you cook because it’s your passion, you’ll obviously spend a lot of time planning, prepping, cooking and serving food. Now, the interesting thing about these different sets of people is that you’d find good cooks amongst them. However, the passionate ones will have an edge over the others because they spend more time honing their craft.

But what makes a good cook? Is it a case of as a man thinketh in his heart, so he is? Or are there other things that make them stand out? I think the latter is the case. This is why we will be looking at seven signs that show that you’re a good cook today. Spare a moment to read the signs and to rate your cooking skills.

1. You Taste as you Cook:

Most good cooks have great taste buds. They also understand the fact that when it comes to cooking, a little more of this and a dash of that can upgrade the flavours of their dish from bland to delicious. Thus, even though they trust their cooking skills, they are not so arrogant that they claim perfection. Tasting as they cook is what has helped most good cooks to retain the title.

2. You can Cook with Minimal Ingredients:

Creativity is one of the hallmarks of a good cook. Good cooks know that all the ingredients they need to cook a particular meal will not always be available and they are not bothered by it. They have the ability to effectively utilize the available ingredients to produce great results. Not everyone can do this.

3. You have a Well-Stocked Pantry:

Good cooks understand that healthy, flavourful meals don’t happen by accident. They are often the result of planning and preparation. Therefore they make a detailed list when going food shopping and they stock their pantry. This saves time and money. It also helps them to prepare different nutritious, tasty meals using basic ingredients; they can even do this at a moment’s notice.

4. People Enjoy Eating Your Food:

This one is obvious. People love tasty meals. Thus, if they are always asking you to cook for them, if they always complement your food, then, you are a good cook.

5. You’re Flexible:

The different methods of cooking yam, for instance, were not all discovered in a day. But they are available to us today because some people allowed their creative juices to be stirred by the pregnant question, “what if?” What I’m trying to say in essence is that good cooks are flexible. They know that recipes are not carved in stone and that different routes can lead to the same destination. Thus, they continue to modify and modernize the recipes they have till it’s perfect for them.

6. You Love Buying Kitchen Equipment:

If you’d rather splurge on kitchen equipment than on yourself, then you’re most likely a good cook. Good cooks spend a lot of time in the kitchen. As a result, they are always looking for ways to improve their cooking process. One way to do this is to upgrade their kitchen gadgets. So, if you find yourself justifying the purchase of yet another kitchen equipment, you’re most likely a good cook.

7. You know a lot of Cooking Tips and Hacks:

The good cook title is the result of research and practice. These will teach you tricks that will ease your cooking stress and make your meals faster and even tastier. Guess what? When you’re a good cook, friends and family who enjoy your meals will always ask you to share your tips with them.

In conclusion, if four or more of these indicators describe you, then, you’re a good cook.
