Amazon.com is an international e-commerce company that offers online retail, computing services, consumer electronics, and digital content. The company is based in Seattle, Washington, and is currently the largest Internet retailer in the world as measured by revenue and market capitalization. Amazon is also one of the top 5 most valuable brands in the world with a market valuation of over 850 billion USD.

Here are some interesting facts you should know about this tech giant:

  1. Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos on July 5, 1994. He had a $300,000 initial capital from his father and started the company in his garage.
  2. Jeff Bezos named the company after the Amazon River, which is the largest river on earth by basin and discharge volume of water. He had initially wanted to name it ‘Cadabra’, which would be short for Abracadabra.
  3. Amazon.com is the 10th most visited website in the world.
  4. Amazon owned the patent for one-click online checkout on e-commerce sites.
  5. Her employees spend two days every two years working at the customer service desk, even the CEO. This is to help workers understand the customer service process.
  6. On the Amazon logo, the arrow points from a to z, signifying that anything can be bought on Amazon.com
