#CNBizFair 2018: Introducing Eyo Bassey

Eyo Bassey
The story of e-commerce in Nigeria won’t be complete without the mention of Payporte. The introduction of  Payporte Technologies Limited changed the experience of online shoppers in Nigeria with their 24-hours delivery service, making it the “Preferred Online Store.” Payporte is the only e-commerce brand from Nigeria with fully staffed, operational physical stores in multiple locations around the worlds like Uk, China, Turkey and the US. So far, it is one of the most visited sites in Nigeria. It was founded by Eyo Bassey, a software developer, an entrepreneur and also, the Founder and CEO of Rom Flex Networks Ltd, a Nigerian-based system integration, IT and software company. Rom Flex Ltd happens to be the parent company to Payporte, along with other companies related to different sectors of the economy like education, oil and gas, e-government, etc. Before he started his companies, he worked as the Global System administrator and the Head of Infrastructure Engineering at Socket Works Global Limited. He has two First degrees, one of which is Civil Engineering. He also studied Pure and Applied Physics at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Oyo state. After which he went on to do a Masters program at Virginia State University, where he emerged with a degree in Information Communication Technology. He was later selected to study Entrepreneurship at the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) organised by the US Government in Washington. He also attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s Sloan School of Management, where he obtained a certificate in Management and Leadership as well as in Strategy and Innovation. His academic pursuits also include; attendance of London Business School to study Market Driving Strategies, and Harvard business school to study Digital Strategies. Before returning home, he was awarded the “Pan-African Leadership Prize for Excellence” by the African Student Union Parliament. He is an Honorary Citizen of Dallas Texas and an Alumni of the U.S. State Department. Since his return, he has been involved in different projects across Africa,  such as enterprise business solution for the Ghana Post, the set up of the largest e-library and e-learning hub in East Africa (MUBS Uganda). While in Nigeria he has worked on other projects besides running his companies such as the roll-out of the e-passport for the Nigerian Immigration Service, the development of software for revenue collections by various State Governments in Nigeria and establishment of electronic voters register for Nigerian Government just to name a few. He has been silently changing the ICT landscape of Nigeria since 2009. In the face of all these astonishing accomplishments, he has had his fair share of hard times. He started his first company (Rom Flex) from his mother’s house, and he has headed projects that failed. But one thing that keeps him going is “The need for results”. The idea that failures are bound to occur and one should never be afraid to fail is one of his philosophies. In his words, “an idea that fails is a project that has failed.” He also believes in empowering women, which can be seen in Payporte’s largely female management team. He has first-hand knowledge on issues regarding capital allocation and budget setting, evaluation of pricing models, operational excellence, competitive analysis for products, technology conceptualisation, design and development. This year at the Connect Nigeria Business Fair 2018, he will be speaking on “Tips on How to Run a Successful Business.” If you have been following his 10-day ‘Steps to build self-image’ or ‘How to find your passion and purpose’ posts on Instagram and Facebook, you’ll know this is one speaker you wouldn’t want to miss.
