As we approach the scheduled date for the 2019 Access Lagos City Marathon, athletes from all around the world are expected to arrive in Lagos today in preparation for Saturday’s big showdown.
Many elite marathon athletes from several continents of the world are expected to grace this year’s event, which could be the biggest in the marathon’s history.
According to the General Manager of the race, Yusuf Ali, over 4000 foreign athletes from 58 countries are expected to take part in this year’s event, with about half the number from North America.
Foreign Champs
In the men’s category, David Barmasai Tumo from Kenya, who won the 2011 Dubai Marathon, will be competing alongside other top world athletes for a shot at the coveted crown.
Jacob Kibet Chulyo and Moses Kigen Kipkosgei are also expected to show up for the race, alongside Samuel Gebremichael, who is currently on the books for Australia.
In the women’s category, 2017 Paris Marathon runner up, Agnes Jeruto Kiptocich, will be gracing the race, alongside Caroline Cheptanui Kilel, 2011 Boston Marathon winner.
Other top rated female marathon athletes who have registered for the event include Georgina Rono, and Risper Jemeli Kimayo.
The IAAF Road Races Manager, Alessio Punzi, as well as IAAF/AIMS Grade A measurer, Mr. Norrie Williamson, are also being expected for the event.
