A friend of mine surprised me recently when he said that my view on friendship is just an excuse. For what? I don’t know.
Sometime ago, when I read the statistics that the average person spends at least half of his/her earnings in a year on the phone, I was shocked into silence and deep reflection.
Have you ever come across the quote: “We spend the money we don’t have on things we don’t need to impress the people who don’t care”?
This is what I believe: In order to get worthwhile result from any interaction; whether business, friendships or family, it needs to be measured.
It is a boring approach to life, I know but it has saved me a lot of money, unnecessary heartaches and precious time. That is a worthwhile business right there.
I don’t force along friends that don’t and won’t like me. The ones that do; I spend my time, my money and emotions on.
The ‘excuse’ in addition to the above is: I’ve got a lot on my mind; a lot of things I need to make happen and I don’t have extra energy for the excess baggage unfriendly friends bring. So I take my time to make my choices.
I think I am the best friend anyone can have. I require that in return too. I am willing to give a lot; I request a lot in return too. Every relationship is a serious business to me therefore, if we’ll have one, you have to take it seriously too.
Any questions?
