Applications Are Now On For Justice Innovations 2016

The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law, HiiL, an organisation that seeks to make justice work for people through new technologies, cutting edge knowledge on conflict resolution and new forms of organisations and governance in conjunction with Ford Foundation is at it again with the HiiL Justice Accelerator. The HiiL Justice Accelerator is a justice innovation challenge that seeks to identify and select innovative and promising justice start-ups that support systematic change. They help innovators validate innovations, improve and scale up with the partners must useful to them and develop sustainable funding models. The accelerator builds partnerships with organisations and justice innovators who want to do things differently and who want to do it now. This year the challenge will focus on SME Empowerment and Family Justice. The SME Empowerment Innovation Challenge is looking for businesses and ideas that seek to address pressing problems facing small and medium enterprises in Africa. Such problems include employment issues, corruption, intellectual property protection, management issues, and employee rights. You can apply here. The Family Justice Innovation is in search of ideas and businesses that provide access to justice for people (especially those in Africa and in the Middle East). The ideas would deal with issues related to transition, divorce/separation, child rights, land and property rights, dispute resolution between family members, adoption procedures and domestic violence. If you interested you can apply here. The winners of the challenge will receive acceleration support and an investment of up to 80,000 EUR in total. Applications will close on June 26th, 2016. Last year’s winners for the SME empowerment challenge where ShopOfficer (Kenya)-$10,000, mSME Garage (Uganda)-$20,000, and DIYLaw (Nigeria)-$40,000.
