Hollaport is a fin-tech mobile application that was founded recently by Bua Group as a means of financial inclusion in Nigeria. The app, which was launched on July 6th at the Tech Park Zone, Gbagada, Lagos, was touted by its founder to be a service that will make the process of making payments and transacting, a seamless and exciting one not only in Nigeria but all over Africa.
In the founder’s words, “With over 4000 devices already registered on the platform. Our focus is to boost financial inclusion of the unbanked and to also increase the possibilities and convenience of chatting, sending and receiving money without leaving the chat platform.”
Meet The App
Setting up the app was fairly simple and straightforward. After a quick download from Google play store, the first thing I was asked to do was to type in my phone number and a One Time Password (OTP) was sent to me via SMS which I entered on my phone. Next, I was asked to create my account by providing details such as my name, email address, password, date of birth, and security question and answer. Once I had entered all these, I was set to start using the app.
Hollaport’s user interface is quite simple and wouldn’t pose any problem to a new user. The app’s layout is, however, scanty – perhaps this is due to the fact that it was just recently launched and more features may be added later. Also, there is the likelihood that the app’s target market may not be prioritising anything too elaborate but may instead be in search of an app that guarantees efficient and reliable services. One aspect I found most interesting about the app is that it encourages social interaction. This means you can engage with friends and loved ones on Hollaport through messaging features that also enable the sharing of photos, videos, and other documents while going about your transactions.
Ultimately, Hollaport is a financially-inclusive app. With a large number of Nigerians who have access to mobile phones, internet subscription and social media, but are not active on or affiliated with any banking platform, it is only imperative that they have access to a service in which they can engage socially and reap the benefits of a tech-driven financial service. In a nutshell, this is the rationale behind Hollaport. Since its release on February 14, 2019, Hollaport has garnered over 4000 downloads – a testament to how well its aim at being an efficient financially-inclusive app has been materialised.
