For some, playing games is an avenue for relaxing from stress while for others, it is fun. Research as shown that, there are scientific benefits of gaming as it increases metabolism in the brain and serves as a means of pain relief.

Here are five benefits of gaming you will like to share with your friends:

1. Playing games could make you smarter.

A study which was published in PLoS ONE in 2013 goes as far as saying that your cognition might be enhanced when you start your Xbox or PlayStation. A research was conducted on five groups of non-gamers, making them play a phone game for one hour a day over four weeks. It was deducted that both action and non-action games improved cognitive function in each participant.

2. Playing games can be a good pain relief.

So many gamers take this as a reason for engaging in gaming. In a literature review published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, it was observed that video games improved the health outcomes of patients both psychologically and physically.

3. Video games could increase memory capacity.

In 2015, Irvine recruited 69 participants and asked a third to play Super Mario world for two weeks, a third to play Angry Birds and the rest to do nothing. A result was reached that, these games provided meaningful stimulation in the brains of the players.

4. Games help dyslexic kids improve their reading.

Video games can help kids increase their cognition. Action games could help kids fighting the ability to read and write. Gaming for kids with dyslexia could serve as a reading treatment, which can be more fun and interesting to them.

5. Tetris could help limit trauma.

Going by the new study on Tetris as opposed the traditional idea of Tetris being a time-consuming game, 37 patients with an emergency who were to be treated for traffic accidents were randomly selected to play 20 minutes of Tetris while another 34 were not given the game but left with their regular activity. It was reached that the Tetris players had significantly fewer flashbacks to the traumatic accident event than those that didn’t.
