However, upon arriving in the state, the campaign train of Peter Obi encountered a series of setbacks when the PDP-governed state under Godwin Obeseki refused to grant the Labour Party candidate and his supporters access to the state’s stadium for the campaign. Despite this, the people of Benin defied state power and held down the city for Mr Peter Obi right on various major roads in Benin City causing huge traffic. While in Benin, Obi visited Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, in his palace. In a fashion never seen in the history of Nigerian politics, outside the palace of the ancient kingdom stood a mammoth crowd of supporters waiting to see the man of the moment.

He also visited Johnson Suleman, general overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries International, in Auchi. Pictures showing crowds of supporters in a makeshift campaign ground have littered the internet getting many people talking. Many have stated that no state is more Obidient than Edo State. One Facebooker reacted:
“This is the Nigeria we love to see. Peter Obi is not from Edo State. Peter Obi is not married to an Edo woman. Peter Obi did nothing special in Edo State. An outsider might think that Peter Obi is from Edo. Young Nigerians are a United people, #EndSARS proved it. From East, West, North & South, young Nigerians who haven’t sold their conscience to the highest bidder are a United people. Peter Obi’s leadership will redefine the Nigerian identity.
