When a business is experiencing a decline in sales and revenue or has simply lost its stability and relevance, or the business is just not growing, there can be a number of contributing factors to this decline. Such business decline could be as a result of a global pandemic, new competition, loss of a major customer, weak management, turnover of key employees, or off-target marketing. These could all have a negative effect on the growth and sustainability of a small business, and be the reason for a company’s decline. However, despite the decline or downturn of business, if the business’s products or services still offer benefits and solutions to its customers and their problems, then one of the ways to recover from such a downturn is by reinventing your business. Rather than simply trying to keep up with the competition, a small or medium scale business can develop its own unique market and branding. If a business continues doing what it has always done in the past, it will probably continue to get the same results, or even less.

How To Reinvent Your Business

  1. Increase your Online or Internet Presence
Most times, small business owners realize that their competitors are doing far better than they are, while they on the other hand, are stuck in the past. One of the ways your competitors can get ahead of you and gain traction in the future is through an already established and ever-present online presence and an e-commerce site. The constant growth and spread of the use of the internet has caused most business owners to evolve as well. Now, most businesses operate differently than in the past, and this has given them an edge over other businesses in the industry.
  1. Implement operational changes
It is not enough to know about the necessary changes that should be done in your business, because it is one thing to know about these changes and it’s another thing to apply and implement these changes in your business. While most businesses have made at least moderate changes, other businesses have been forced to transform nearly their entire operations. Fortunately, many of these changes and transformations will make these businesses more profitable and stronger for the future.

  1. Creative Pricing
Most businesses decline in sales and revenue, because of either over-pricing or under-pricing, or they always charge the same price for their products or services. It is important to understand that pricing does not have to be static. There can be discount pricing for sales, quantity purchases, second item purchases, and a special day or hour pricing. On the other hand, you can also get creative by adding premium pricing for extended warranties and services, add-on products and services, and personalized service, as this can also improve sales.
  1. Locate under-utilized markets
It is no longer news that great opportunities are now mostly found in the least expected areas like an underserved market. That is why it is important that you locate these markets, discover the needs of that market, determine how to best satisfy those needs, and make them your target audience or customers.
  1. Observe your food flask
The actions of your competitors can indicate it’s time to re-invent your business, and you can monitor competitor activities in these ways:
  • Look for changes in their websites or even a complete redesign.
  • Pay attention to messages they emphasize on social media.
  • Evaluate the appeal of the content (articles, case studies, etc.) they are promoting.
  • Always take in the “big picture” from a customer’s perspective.
  1. Focus on differentiation
The goal is to reinvent and restructure it, nevertheless, it is important that you carve out an industry niche for your business anywhere. This ensures that your brand is still in existence. These strategies can be employed especially for those who are small and medium scale business owners. Featured Image Source: Kochie’s Business Builders
