For Nigeria, some super brands of the 80’s and early 1990’s that most households used became the name of the general products. Macleans was taken for toothpaste, flit was taken for insecticides, Vaseline was generally taken for jelly cream, De Rica was take for canned tomato etc. Some of these products left the market gradually, but some — Macleans and De Rica — have returned. Just this week, Unilever has announced that it is bringing back Vaseline Jelly into the Nigerian market, to have the new generation enjoy the jelly quality the older generation did, and the old generation also can return to a product they delighted in. Speaking at a stage play event that announced the New Triple Purified Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, the Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria, Thabo Mabe, said, “Just as a mothers’ love is pure, so is the gentle, yet strong nature of Vaseline providing purity like no other to all our consumers.”
