Its founder, Babatunde Ibidapo-Obe, says he decided to set it up when he realized that most Nigerians didn’t have ready access to legal information or advice in forms that they could easily understand. At that time, even the internet was bereft of this sort of solution. So he decided to create it himself. While he was in the United Kingdom, he learnt about websites like LegalZoom, which provided inexpensive legal services to people. He believed that Nigerians could do with something similar. In July 2015, Ibidapo-Obe launched LawPadi. It started off with publishing content about basic legal concerns. It has since expanded its range of services to include introductory e-courses, business registration (which it does for the client businesses), and chatbots that attend to site visitors’ questions. LawPadi has a repository of over 500 legal articles. They deal with subjects ranging from business regulation to civil disputes, human rights, governance, real estate, and cybersecurity, among others. These legal guides address some of the most frequently asked questions about Nigerian law in various spheres.

If visitors to the website need more answers, they could engage one of its three chatbots: BINTA (Business In Nigeria Technology Advisor), LATIFA (Landlord and Tenant Information Adviser), and ADA (Automated Divorce Adviser). Persons looking for a competent lawyer to help with their legal issues can find one via the LawPadi website. They can schedule a legal assessment, and get linked to a qualified legal professional for a fee that’s less expensive than what obtains at regular law firms. This startup also assists new businesses with their business registration process at the Corporate Affairs Commission.      A contact page allows visitors to send their enquiries to the LawPadi team. This page also contains the company’s physical and email addresses. Featured Image Source: Lawpadi
