The World Food Program (WFP) is accepting applications for its Innovation Challenge. It’s on the lookout for startups or companies that are developing solutions for stronger and more sustainable food systems, tackling hunger, and enabling global partnerships on food security. Winning startups will get up to $100,000 in equity-free funding, mentorship, and have the chance to engage the World Food Program.

Innovations from the startups that apply must be designed to fight hunger, protect communities from stress events that cause food shortage, allow access to safe and nutritious food, and actualize equitable livelihoods for people across the world.

Benefits

Companies and startups selected by organizers of the challenge will benefit in the following ways:

  • They will be invited to take part in the World Food Program Innovation bootcamp, a fully virtual event, in June 2022
  • They can apply for the WFP’s Sprint Program, an accelerator that will last for six months
  • They could access up to $100,000 in equity-free funding, as well as mentorship, and the World Food Program’s global network of partners and extensive operations
  • Solutions that are observed to have a broad social impact may receive more funding and support

Eligibility

Applicants are expected to meet these conditions in order to qualify for consideration by the World Food Program:

  • Must have been registered and incorporated by the time they apply (they may be for profit or not-for-profit).
  • Their innovation should be at the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) stage; proof-of-concept and initial traction are preferred.
  • The solution should be feasible, financially viable and sustainable (and demonstrably so), and have a business case that isn’t dependent on funding from the WFP.
  • Applicants’ proposals should show how working with the World Food Program will help them achieve their aims over the long term.
  • The team should have the requisite experience in developing food solutions or in related fields.

The deadline for applications is April 6, 2022.
