Established in 2024 with the generous support of the Republic of Korea, this UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education marks a pioneering initiative. The award is presented biennially and honours exceptional achievements in promoting and developing GCED across two distinct categories:
- Other: Encompasses individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations, and various other entities.
- Youth-led organizations: Focuses specifically on organizations guided by young leaders.

Application Criteria
For “Youth-led organization” category applicants:
The organization must be under the leadership of person(s) between 18-30 years of age.For “Other” category applicants:
Eligible applicants include:- Individuals
- Institutions
- Non-governmental organizations
- Various other entities

Qualification Standards
Qualifying initiatives must meet the following conditions:- GCED Relevance: The initiative must directly relate to Global Citizenship Education.
- Implementation Duration: The program must have been actively running for a minimum of one year with demonstrable evidence of practical activities.
- Independence: Neither the project nor its organizing body should have any affiliation with UNESCO or receive UNESCO funding.
- Nomination Process: Applications must be submitted through either a UNESCO National Commission or an NGO that maintains official relations with UNESCO.
