Ramadan is the season where Muslims practise self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate. They do these through fasting, actions of generosity, and compulsory charity (zakat).
In Nigeria, it is a national public holiday; the perfect time for non-Muslims to explore restaurants and lounges around them. Below are some budget-friendly restaurants in Lagos to check out:
Kapadoccoia Restaurant Lagos
This Cave restaurant in both Lagos and Abuja is reminiscent of the actual town of Cappadoccia in central Turkey. Our focus here is on the one in Lagos. The restaurant feels like you are in an actual cave, it even has a mini waterfall outside. There is an outdoor and indoor area that is perfect for dinner dates with a partner or a clique of friends. Note that this place has some rules like no slippers/flats for ladies, making reservations before showing up in person, etc. The menu is a combination of Turkish and Nigerian meals (no fusion). Though food portions are small and pricey, the experience is worth it.
Address: 16 Idowu Taylor St, Victoria Island, Lagos
Jinja
This restaurant has an Asian-fusion cuisine which is a fusion of Thai, Nigerian and Chinese, and Japanese flavours. The restaurant provides dining options for EbonyLife Place luxury resorts and it is not to be confused with the Turaka Lagos rooftop bar. Its ambiance is a blend of art, nature, and chic. The food presentation will make you salivate. The food here is pricey (e.g. N7,000–N12,000 and above per meal). But you will enjoy the meals and the view.
Address: 1637 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos
Godaif Village
This chic restaurant is in the heart of Ikoyi close to Banana Island. It has a pizza place, a poolside bar/restaurant, an indoor café, and a kid’s playground. It’s the perfect place for a family hangout, date night, and casual meeting with friends. Its Mexican architecture adds to its charming ambiance. And you can expect a diverse menu, from coffee to grilled meals, empanadas, desserts, and more.
Address: Casa Asmarina, 26B Turnbull Rd, Ikoyi, Lagos
343 degrees North Restaurant and Lounge
Within Hartleys Supermarket, (Victoria Island) lies this unique spot. A trip to this restaurant will leave you with an authentic experience of Indian and Chinese cuisine intertwined with culinary art. The space has a vibrant ambiance. The menu is both analog and digital, and it comes with pictures to help you understand what you are ordering.
Address: 237 Kofo Abayomi St, Victoria Island, Lagos
Note: When we say these places are budget-friendly, we don’t mean flat-out cheap. We mean you can afford the meals there if you plan towards it. Also, no matter how affordable the meals are, keep in mind that you will still pay VAT and consumption tax, so the total might differ from what’s on the menu.
Make sure you visit at least one on this list. We promise you won’t regret it. Ramadan Mubarak to you all.
