Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) has announced that it is receiving entries into its innovation competition. If you run an SME in the agro-allied industry and have a solution that could make Nigeria’s food value chain more sustainable, you could enter the competition for a chance to win the grand prize of ₦5 million.

Students who are interested in the food and agro-allied industry are also invited to take part in the competition, as there is a separate segment for them.
The Flour Mills of Nigeria Prize for Innovation Competition is an annual contest aimed at improving the state of the country’s food value chain. This year, the focus will be on encouraging local content development in the sector. Participants in the competition are expected to come up with solutions that steer the industry away from its current dependence on imported raw materials and towards greater self-sufficiency.
In addition to winning the grand prize, the top student and businesses will get recognition for their work.
Eligibility (Business)
Businesses should meet these criteria in order to be eligible to take part in the competition:
- Must be a Micro, Small, or Medium enterprise that’s duly registered in Nigeria and is involved in the agro-processing and food production industry
- Their solution should enable a shift towards dependence on local content in the agro-allied and food-processing industry
- The idea should have a strong proof of concept, a commercial or social purpose, and a well-defined path to scale

The Application Process For Businesses
SMEs should follow these steps to enter the competition:
- Fill out the online application form by January 5, 2023
- Upload a video that explains their innovation which drives local content use in the agro-allied and food production industry
- The entry should be supported with proof of registration

Students should meet these criteria in order to be eligible to take part in the competition:
- Their idea should enable a shift towards dependence on local content in the agro-allied and food-processing industry
- The idea should have a strong proof of concept and a commercial or social purpose

- Post their entries on social media, follow and tag @FMNGroup, and encourage their friends to engage in the post
