  The UNICEF Venture Fund is inviting applications from startups delivering solutions to improve women’s and girl’s socioeconomic conditions. It particularly wants to hear from ventures that are leveraging cutting-edge technologies to solve challenges in healthcare and service delivery that primarily or disproportionately affect females.

Under this program, up to $100,000 in equity-free funding will be provided to early-stage for-profit startups that are utilizing Artificial Intelligence, data science, and blockchain to achieve positive social impact. If your startup serves women and girls with tech-driven solutions that improve their lives, you may consider applying to the UNICEF Venture Fund for financial support to scale.

Benefits

Startups selected for the fund will receive equity-free financial backing to strengthen their solutions and expand their reach. Funding is provided in two or three tranches, based on a work plan agreed to with the Venture Fund portfolio managers.

In addition to this, the organizers of the fund offer mentorship and business development support to funded startups. They also help with product design advisory, covering human-centred UI and UX design, user persona creation, and mapping user journeys. Other kinds of support delivered to startups selected for this fund are technical advice around software development, data security, Artificial Intelligence, and open-source projects.

Eligibility

This program is open to startups that meet these criteria:
  • Using contemporary technology to solve problems in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Addressing issues faced by women and girls, especially those in underserved communities (e.g. persons living with disabilities)
  • Support financial inclusion and economic participation
  • Enabling access to education, training, and skill-building
  • Women-led startups and young founders are encouraged to apply
