Outside of the online world, she’s Yemi Odusanya, a character with an interesting life journey. Yemi does have some grounding in the art of communication; she has a degree in Mass Communication from Igbenedion University, Edo State, and a diploma from the PR Academy in London. And it does appear that she’s brought those qualifications to bear on her content creation. But Yemi didn’t start out wanting to be an online content creator. She recalls starting the Sisi Yemmie blog in 2011, after her fiancé (now husband) suggested it to her. Yemi says she had some free time on her hands and decided to fill it with working on the blog. The blog has grown over the years and is now one of the most reputable sites covering Nigerian cuisine in the country. Her YouTube channel has taken off too. It currently has over 800 uploaded videos, more than 500,000 subscribers, and several million views. She’s garnered a similar-sized following on Instagram. Many of her YouTube viewers are attracted by the variety of dishes that Sisi Yemmie features on her channel. They include videos showing how to prepare popular meals (like the Nigerian party jollof rice, fried rice, okra soup, or Efo riro), and less frequently consumed meals (for example, Ayamase stew or grilled tilapia).

But she does more than just share recipes. There are also V-logs on topics around family, shopping, and travel. The Sisi Yemmie channel is effectively a food and lifestyle content page. And it’s attracting a following from Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, as well as non-Nigerians interested in Nigerian food. The same content range exists on her blog. Besides the many recipes it presents, there’s also content about motherhood, family, relationships, and career. It’s a lifestyle blog with a strong focus on food. There, you’ll find her talking about her recipes, outings, anniversaries, and tips for home maintenance. In 2020, she authored her first cookbook, ‘A Time To Eat’. The ebook discusses more than 30 Nigerian recipes and has been made available to a global readership. Sisi Yemmie has won several awards for her content. These include the Nigerian Blog of the Year at the 2014 ELOY Awards, Blogger of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards held in 2015, YouTuber of the Year at the 2017 ELOY Awards, and Woman of The Year For Social Media by HER Network, also in 2017.
