Co-founded by Ridwan Rasheed and Quadry Olalekan, Shiip has rapidly grown into a key player in the logistics sector, addressing crucial needs for numerous businesses across Africa. This article delves into Shiip’s journey, the impact of its innovative solutions, and its strategic vision for the future, including its recent achievements and partnerships, particularly with telecom giant MTN.

The Founders and Their Vision

Ridwan Rasheed and Quadry Olalekan co-founded Shiip with a clear mission: to simplify and enhance logistics services across Africa. Their vision was born out of a deep understanding of the logistical challenges businesses face on the continent.

Innovative Solutions and Impact

Shiip’s digital platform is at the core of its innovative approach, connecting shippers with a reliable network of couriers and warehouses. This platform streamlines the process of booking and tracking shipments, ensuring transparency and efficiency. By leveraging technology, Shiip has managed to optimize delivery routes, reduce transit times, and minimize costs, setting a new standard in the logistics industry. One of Shiip’s standout achievements is its ability to serve various businesses, from small enterprises to large corporations. The startup’s focus on operational excellence, inspired by insights from industry leaders like Shola Akinlade of Paystack, has been instrumental in this regard.

Strategic Partnerships and Achievements

Shiip’s strategic vision includes forming key partnerships to expand its reach and improve service delivery. One of the most significant milestones for Shiip is its recent partnership with MTN, the continent’s largest mobile network operator. According to a February 2024 report by TechCabal, this collaboration aims to revolutionize internet device delivery for millions of Nigerian subscribers. By leveraging Shiip’s vast fulfilment network and expertise, MTN can ensure faster, more convenient access to cutting-edge devices for over 6.7 million customers. Through this partnership, customers can now seamlessly purchase devices on MTN’s online eShop and enjoy same-day or next-day delivery powered by Shiip’s robust infrastructure. This marks a significant step towards a simplified “Click-to-Connected” journey, making it easier than ever for Nigerians to access the tools they need to stay connected and participate in the digital economy. The partnership includes a strategic warehousing agreement to ensure faster and more efficient delivery. MTN will pre-stock Shiip’s warehouses with high-demand devices, minimizing pick-up trips and streamlining order processing. This not only reduces wait times for customers but also alleviates potential stock-out issues, guaranteeing a smooth and reliable delivery experience.

Shiip stands as Africa’s largest logistics leader, boasting a network of over 82 partners, including delivery companies and couriers, including notable brands like DHL, FedEx/Redstar, GIG, Kwik, UPS, Jumia Logistics, Kxpress, Courier Plus and more, providing local, continental and worldwide shipments.

New Warehousing and Inventory Management Software

Building on its innovative logistics solutions, in 2022, Shiip launched a new warehouse and inventory management software to enhance storage and efficient delivery of goods for businesses. This software enables businesses to set up branches in new locations, eliminating compliance issues and operational costs. With this software, businesses can store products, monitor stocks, and manage their inventory seamlessly. Akoni OluwaSemiloore, Head of Growth at Shiip, emphasized the importance of this development:
“It is important for business owners in Africa to have access to the best storage facilities as e-commerce continues to grow in our continent. Storage infrastructure is still not where we would like it to be and it has been a pain point businesses and even farmers have had to contend with in the past.”
Shiip’s CEO, Ola Quadry, also highlighted the significance of this launch:
“Our main aim is to provide small and medium-scale businesses, be it fintech companies, retailers, logistics or small business owners, the right support they need to succeed.  We understand the challenges and peculiarities that come with managing deliveries to Nigerian, African, and broadly, International customers, therefore, the expansion of our services to include warehousing and inventory management is a natural progression.”
With over 2000 users in Nigeria and partnerships with major delivery companies, Shiip is well-positioned to offer comprehensive logistics solutions. This software is expected to significantly reduce avoidable losses that stifle business growth by ensuring that goods are carefully handled and stored in climate-controlled facilities.

The Company’s Mission and Values

Shiip’s mission is to build Africa’s widest logistics platform to help businesses worry less about delivery and warehousing. According to one of the founders, Quadry, “We are building a marketplace that allows businesses to find logistics companies that keep to their word and deliver as promised.” This commitment to reliability and efficiency has been a driving force behind Shiip’s growth and success.

Giving Back and Future Plans

Shiip’s journey has not only been about growth but also about giving back to the community. Inspired by the support they received, Ridwan Rasheed has been providing free product consultations and reviews for young entrepreneurs. This initiative reflects Shiip’s commitment to fostering a supportive ecosystem for emerging startups. Looking ahead, Shiip plans to continue expanding its services across more African countries, leveraging its technological innovations and strategic partnerships. The startup aims to further diversify its offerings, catering to various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and retail. By addressing unique logistical challenges in different industries, Shiip hopes to make a lasting impact on the African logistics landscape.
