Early Life and Education

Chef Fregz was born in Abeokuta and grew up in Benin City, Nigeria. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in food and cooking, which would later shape his career. He pursued a degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at Covenant University. However, his true passion was always in the kitchen. Chef Fregz took a bold step to follow his dreams, studying cuisine at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in France.   At Le Cordon Bleu, Chef Fregz was introduced to classical French cooking techniques, which greatly influenced his approach to food. While learning the basics of French cooking, he was also exposed to a blend of global culinary styles, giving him a diverse and unique cooking perspective.  

Career Beginnings

Chef Fregz didn’t just start his culinary journey overnight. He began by working at some top hotels and restaurants. In 2004, he started his internships at Oakwood Park and Protea Hotel. His passion for food led him to continue learning, and by 2007, he was working at Oleander Lodge. These early experiences helped shape his skills and knowledge of the food industry.   By 2009, Chef Fregz was ready to start his own venture. He founded DVARD Catering Service, where he began to showcase his culinary skills. But Chef Fregz wanted more. He dreamed of taking his cooking to a global level. In early 2010, he left Nigeria and moved to Paris to study at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute. This was a turning point in his career. Mastering Culinary Arts in France

While studying at Le Cordon Bleu, Chef Fregz learned not just French techniques but also how to adapt them with a creative twist. His time in France wasn’t just about learning recipes; it was about gaining an understanding of the world’s diverse culinary cultures. After completing his studies, Chef Fregz took another big step—working as an intern at Market Restaurant in Paris. His passion and dedication earned him a permanent spot at the restaurant, where he gained more experience and further honed his skills.  

Returning to Nigeria and Building a Brand

After spending some time in France, Chef Fregz returned to Nigeria with new knowledge and a fresh outlook. He wanted to bring a modern and exciting approach to Nigerian cuisine. By focusing on young people, Chef Fregz was able to connect with the upwardly mobile crowd that wanted more than just traditional dishes. His creative approach to cooking quickly became popular, and he began to attract a loyal following.   One of his key strategies was hosting summer-style cookouts called “Chef Fregz Special.” These events became a huge hit, especially among the younger generation. People loved the fun, creative environment where they could try new dishes and interact with the chef himself. These cookouts allowed Chef Fregz to promote his brand and connect with his audience in a way that was both engaging and entertaining.  

Becoming a Culinary Influencer and Judge

Chef Fregz didn’t stop there. As his brand grew, he began to appear as a judge in several cooking competitions in Nigeria, including Knorr Taste Quest. His role as a judge allowed him to share his expertise with the next generation of chefs and food lovers. It also helped to raise his profile in the culinary community, further establishing him as a key figure in Nigerian food culture.   Chef Fregz’s ability to combine the rich traditions of Nigerian food with innovative cooking techniques has made him a go-to expert for both traditional and modern culinary trends. His influence has extended beyond just cooking—he has become a mentor and role model for many aspiring chefs in Nigeria.  

Personal Life

Outside of his cooking career, Chef Fregz has a personal life that is just as inspiring. In September 2018, he married actress Kemi Lala Akindoju, and together, they make a beautiful couple. Their love story has captured the hearts of many, especially among their fans. In February 2021, Chef Fregz and Kemi welcomed their first child into their family, adding even more joy to their lives.
