Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) was greeted with bad news after the news of the death of its President, Yahaya Muhammad, was made public by Auwal Sankara, the media aide to the Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru. Until his death, the deceased was also the special assistant to Governor Badaru of Jigawa State, on Assembly matters.

Nigerian Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has gone further to commiserate with the family of the Weightlifting chief popularly known as Big Man. The Minister noted that Muhammed’s sterling leadership would be greatly missed by the Weightlifting federation and the Nigerian sporting world at large.

Nigeria Olympic Committee President, Engineer Habu Gumel, has also sent in condolence message to the family of the deceased and the weightlifting federation, describing his death as a monumental loss to the country. Engr. Habu did not fail to remember the deceased‘s contribution towards seeing to the success of Nigeria in the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco, stating it earned the late Muhammed the title of the ‘’Golden President,” among other sports federation Presidents in the country.
Hon. Yahaya Mohammed will be remembered for his passion for the sport of Weightlifting as well as his amiable character that easily endeared him to all of us. Not only that, his outstanding feat and achievements at the 2019 12th African Games in Morocco got him the accolade among his admirers the “Golden President.’’ On behalf of the Executive Board and members of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, we extend our heart-felt condolences to the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, his co-Federation Presidents, the Government and people of Jigawa State and his immediate family on the irreparable loss. May God grant his soul eternal rest
