MTN Foundation has announced that 200 communities across Nigeria will be benefiting from the second phase of its ‘What Can We Do Together’ initiative. Projects which include transformers, boreholes, school furniture and household items are to be installed in localities selected from a shortlist of 1,085 communities in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

Speaking on Monday, MTN Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Nonny Ugboma, said that the foundation will be making available 20 transformers, 20 boreholes, furniture for 80 schools, and 80 primary healthcare centers in various parts of the country. This, she said, was being done to fulfill its pledge to “complement government efforts in the development of infrastructure” across the country. She referred to the first phase of the What Can We Do Together initiative as a success, and promised that the installation of the second raft of projects would be equally successful.

The communities which are to benefit from the initiative were selected after coming through from a screening process carried out by the MTN Foundation’s verification team. MTN says over 80,000 members of the public participated in the nomination process which yielded the shortlist from which the eventual beneficiary communities emerged.

The first phase of the program saw the delivery of 200 projects to communities spread out across Nigeria. Those projects, like the phase currently underway, helped to meet the school furniture, electricity supply and medical supply needs of recipient communities.

The lists of communities that are to benefit from phase two of the What Can We Do Together initiative can be found on the MTN Foundation’s Facebook page.
