Early Life in Oyo

Zacch Adelabu Adedeji grew up in Iwo-Ate, Ogbomosho, in Oyo State. From the start, he loved numbers and enjoyed making sense of them—something that would shape his future.

He kicked off his academic journey at the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun State, earning a National Diploma in Accountancy. But he didn’t stop there. Next, he headed to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, where he earned a First-Class BSc in Management & Accounting, followed by an MSc in Accounting.

His thirst for knowledge led him abroad, too. He completed an executive course in Economic Development at Harvard Kennedy School, and, in 2023, earned a PhD in Accounting from OAU. He’s a lifelong learner.

From P&G to Public Service

Zacch began his career at Procter & Gamble (P&G), working his way up to roles like Corporate Finance Manager for West Africa and Finance Leader during an SAP implementation. These roles shaped his solid foundation in financial management and global best practices.

In 2011, he returned to his home state when Governor Abiola Ajimobi appointed him Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State. Over four years, Zacch managed budgets, increased revenue, and helped guide the state’s financial direction.

Later, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC). There, he helped found the Nigeria Sugar Institute, showcasing his passion for innovation and institutional growth.

Leading the Nation’s Tax Authority

In early 2023, Zacch became Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, and by September, President Bola Tinubu named him Executive Chairman of FIRS. In this role, he oversees Nigeria’s tax collection—the lifeblood of the nation’s economy.

His focus? Making tax collection more efficient, transparent, and modern. He aims not just to raise revenue but also to build trust between Nigerians and the tax agency. It’s a big goal, but his track record shows he is up to the task.
