How to Make a Healthy Grocery Shopping List

A grocery list is a determinant of the kind of food you’re eating. Here are a few ways you can stay organized and ensure you and your family are stocked with healthy products.

Keep a running list on the fridge 

Keep a notebook and a pen in your kitchen at all times; a small chalkboard or whiteboard will also work. When you run out of an item, write it down. This will prevent you from starting out a meal only to discover that you’re out of Maggi or salt, for example.

Plan your meals ahead of time

Meal planning is not only a huge time saver, but will keep you on track with healthy eating. You’re much less likely to eat fast food or a box of pizza when you have a plan and food that will go bad if you don’t eat it.

Organize your shopping list

Organize your list into categories or by the layout of the supermarket or market; divide the list into sections, such vegetables, dairy, meat, fruits, canned goods, condiments etc. This way, as you walk through mart or market, you can go in the order of your list and avoid wasting time wandering around (unless you need to haggle prices). You also lower the risk of impulsive buying when you have a laid out plan.
