The Economist, one of the world’s leading news magazines, has ranked the Lagos Business School’s (LBS) Executive MBA programme as one of the best in the world. The publication, in its periodic ranking of the top business executive programmes on the planet, placed the LBS amongst the top fifty, making it the only African business school with a spot on the list.

In the compilation of executive programmes from 65 business schools dominated by institutions from Europe and North America, the Lagos Business School was ranked 48th. It’s also one of only a few business schools located (or having a presence) in emerging economies on the list. Two of these have a presence in Singapore, and one each in Brazil and China. A large chunk of business schools represented are from the USA; they are led by the Yale School of Management, which sits at the top of the list. The Lagos Business School is widely recognized as one of Africa’s leading institutions for business education. Founded in 1991, it’s grown to become the most prominent arm of its parent institution, the Pan Atlantic University, and Nigeria’s foremost business school. As stated on their website:
“LBS strives to be a world class business school which will have a significance impact on the practice of management.”
The Economist ranked the schools on its list based on two criteria:
  • personal development or educational experience
  • career development.
The final list was based on data collected from business schools and their students, from web-based questionnaires sent to them. The survey sought answers to questions about the statistics of alumni and current students, faculty facilities, and enrolled persons’ salaries from before and after they ran their MBA programmes at the institutions. This isn’t the first time the LBS is ranking in a global list of business schools. The Financial Times, a world renowned business journal based in London, has had the school on its list of top 70 business schools in the areas of open enrollment executive education every year since 2007, and customized executive education since 2015. The Lagos Business School offers academic programmes, executive programmes, and short focused programmes in management. Its rise in prominence coincides with the growing popularity of the MBA amongst business professionals in Nigeria.
