Global consumer healthcare giant, Johnson & Johnson is giving budding African healthcare visionaries a big chance to achieve their dreams. The company has announced that it is now receiving applications for its Africa Innovation Challenge, a contest aimed at encouraging the brightest and best of Africa’s new health entrepreneurs to contribute to the development potentially groundbreaking healthcare solutions.

The Africa Innovation Challenge targets new, viable solutions to Africa’s peculiar healthcare challenges in three areas:

  1. Early childhood development and maternal health.
  2. Empowering young girls in Africa.
  3. Family wellbeing.

Submissions are therefore expected to address at least one of these areas; the submissions will be evaluated based on these criteria.

Healthcare solutions selected by Johnson & Johnson could get up to $100,000 in funding, a lab space, as well as technical and business mentoring from the best minds at the company. All of this is to be done with the intention of helping the healthcare entrepreneurs reach an advanced and measurable target on the way to making their proposed solution come to life.

Applications to the Johnson & Johnson Africa Innovation Challenge will be accepted until January 17, 2017. Winners will be announced by the end of February 2017.
