The emergence of technology has been to humans’ every advantage. From the convenience, it brings down to the way it has made day to day life activities easier. The emergence of technology affects every sector in a nation (Educational, Economic, Health, Political, and Agricultural) and improves their productivity level. The impact of emerging technologies on these sectors includes;
1. Educational Sector
There is no doubt that technology has been introduced into our classrooms. The use of teaching slides, computers, advanced laboratories, and projectors is proof of this. Technology has made learning easier and faster for students making it so that students can understand the world outside their classrooms. Students do no longer have to believe what teachers say without pictorial and practical representations of them. Pictorial representational of data creates an imprint in the minds of students thereby making them assimilate and recollect past teachings.
Emerging technologies have greatly impacted the everyday learning experience. It has greatly expanded access to education. Classes are now made available online and are made to reach a larger audience. With technology, humans do not need to compulsorily attend physical classes and distance-barrier has been eliminated.
2. Economic Sector
The modernization of the banking industry, improved methods of payments, and the likes are a result of emerging technologies. Emerging technologies such as blockchain have helped to reduce the risks of theft and the stress associated with carrying cash around. Transactions are made faster and people no longer need to be physically present to transact business.
3. Health Sector
Emerging technologies have been of huge impact on society today as it has made the early detection of diseases possible thereby increasing one’s life expectancy rate. Early detection of some diseases such as cancer makes treatment possible. Technology helps in monitoring the patient’s health condition and improving clinical outcomes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the lockdown prevented people from going to the hospital when they feel unwell, technology however made it possible that doctors can attend to patients via the internet.
4. Political Sector
In exercising our political rights of voting, emerging technologies have made things a lot easier. With the aid of these technologies, there is a reduction in electoral malpractice and rigging of elections. With these technologies, the people’s choice of candidate is made to rule and represent the people in government thereby pronouncing democracy.
Emerging technologies have also made it easier to collate votes faster and prevent delays in the announcement of each candidate’s number of votes.
5. Agricultural Sector
Agriculture is the cultivation of crops and rearing of farm animals for the benefit of man which makes it an essential part of human living. Humans can not do without feeding but not all humans are involved in agricultural production so there is a need for improvements to serve consumers better. Technology has helped in keeping farm records (Plants and animals). It helps to know which food crop and animal is fit for human consumption. The emergence of farm technology also helps in providing gainful employment due to the breaking down of roles in agriculture.
Do not be deceived. Emerging technologies also have negative impacts. The negative impacts include,
1. Pollution (Air, Noise, Water, Land).
2. Reduction in the employment of manpower. Due to emerging technologies, many have lost their jobs and are unable to cater to their needs.
3. Reduction in human creativity levels.
4. High cost of purchasing and maintenance.
5. Impaired vision.
6. Lack of sleep (Insomnia).
7. Postural defects.
The positive impacts are however more than the negative impacts. Emerging technologies is indeed a blessing to the human race.
