Fear is a thing of the mind, which has kept millions across the world in a state of mediocrity, underperformance, shame, depression, and retrogression. Many great ideas and dreams die because those who had them were paralyzed by fear. In my discovery about fear, I discovered that fear is a thing of the mind that can be conquered if we apply certain techniques consistently.

In this article, I’m going to give you five powerful hacks to overcome fear.
  1. Sick Assistance

Dealing with fear alone will only amplify the problem. When faced with fear and anxiety, especially that endangers your wellbeing and ego such as the fear of public speaking, it’s advisable to reach out to friends or a community of game-changers, a coach, a counsellor, support groups, family members that can help you walk out of your fears. The beauty of dealing with your fears is that you have the consciousness that you’re not alone, which in itself is comforting and encouraging.
  1. Don’t Deny Your Fears

In a bid to look and sound fearless, many people often deny or suppress their fears. They use several techniques including feigning bravery, self-talk, and so on. However, when we bury our fears without dealing with them from the root, they will always surface when triggered. Therefore, it is important to know what our fears are and own them. Owning up to your fears isn’t weakness. Once you embrace your fears, you begin to apply lifestyles that shrink them.

  1. Get Used To The Fact That You Can’t Control Everything

Most often, our fears are hinged on the fact that we can’t control everything. For example, we get worried about what the future holds, but we can’t control what the future brings. The uncertainties are there and we must embrace them. The best way to cope is to control that which is within our control such as submitting an assignment before a deadline, saving for the future, eating healthy, and being security conscious of our environment.
  1. Build Your Life Around Positive Influence

One of the most effective ways to defeat fear is to surround yourself with positivity. Most times our fears are caused by internal and external triggers. My biggest advice is to surround yourself with positive friends, books, and an environment. Hanging around friends who try to make an impact in society can rub off on you. Furthermore, avoid toxic and fear-inducing materials like movies, books, and so on, and replace them with motivating materials. Make it a habit to visit conferences where motivations and self-development are discussed.
  1. Spot Triggers And Eliminate Them

If your neighbourhood is a troubled zone, it’s about time you relocated to a more peaceful place. People living in communities where conflicts are commonplace often suffer mental health problems associated with fear and anxiety. If you fall under this category, it’s advisable to start looking for a safer and peaceful space. Also, if your fears are triggered by bullying in school or college, rather than suffering in silence, getting scared every day, report to your parents and the school authorities so that the bully can be disciplined.
