Following the flood incident around Kortonkarfi area in Lokoja in the last two days, heavy traffic has been recorded along the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.
Given this development, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has tweeted that all travellers to the South-West should take the Suleja-Bida-Mokwa road.
Motorists going to the South-South/South-East regions have also been given directives on the travel routes to take. The commission tweeted:
“Motorist travelling to the South-West region of the country are kindly advised to take the Suleja-Bida-Mokwa road, while those travelling to the South-South/South-East regions are also advised to go through Nasarawa-Oweto Bridge-Adoka–Otupka axis.”
The FRSC also made the reason known to the general public. It stated that this decision is because the water levels are high and would take a while to subside. It stated:
“This is due to the fact that the water level may take another two or more days to subside.”
There have been several reactions to this tweet, as people give snippets of their experiences on the flooded roads and offer advice on alternative routes.
