Parents cannot teach their kids everything during the short period of growing up, they can only guide and help them in major issues. There are a whole lot of things we have had to figure out by ourselves, for example, no one taught you how to deal with each and every challenge as they come, you learnt to figure that out on your own. As life goes on and each individual starts to mature, the growing up phase starts to end. And the adult phase begins to show up, responsibilities abound and we learn to solve and deal with issues on our own based on the things we have learnt. However, some of us realize that there are still lots we totally forgot to learn while growing up, some of the commonest are:

1. Time waits for no one. When we were younger, most of us thought life would go on forever and things will remain the same. No one told you that time is precious and you can never get it back once wasted. Life taught us as we became adults. Nothing lasts forever, so do not waste time chasing after things that do not matter.

2. Your attitude determines your life: The way you react to things, people and situations is your attitude. What most people do not know is that it greatly affects your life in different ways. A happy and grateful attitude will help you appreciate life more while a bad attitude will keep stirring up feelings of discontentment and sadness.

3. You are only young once: You can never get a minute back once it passes. It is the same thing with life, once a moment passes, it becomes almost impossible to get it back. Life is short and you never know what tomorrow holds, so spend your days doing productive things that make your life happier and better.

4. Challenges always show up: Yes your parents might have told you that life is not a bed of roses, but they surely did not tell you about every single challenge you will face in the course of your life. We learnt to figure out and deal with challenges on our own. An important aspect of growing up is having the ability to make your own decisions and face the consequences.

5. Self love: You are capable of loving others because you love yourself first. Many have fallen into depression because they think the world does not love them, the simple truth is that you have to take the bold step by loving yourself first. Self love is a concept that most people do not understand until they become mature adults and decide to learn it on their own.
