The holiday is in addition to the usual Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. This year, Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on Wednesday, April 10. The additional public holiday on Thursday, April 11, is since the crescent moon that marks the end of the Muslim fast has not been sighted. Thus, this additional holiday gives Nigerians a three-day weekend to celebrate. In the press statement, the Minister of Interior congratulated the Muslim faithful for a successful Ramadan and reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all.
